Great design is a journey fuelled by curiosity.
Each 'Curious Coaster' is hand painted and is completely unique, and a one-off. The 'Curious?' graphic was designed to be a bit of a puzzle to read.
The surface of the natural cork sheets were hand-painted in metallic colours. Cork is a sustainable, natural material made from the bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus suber). The bark is cleaned and ground into granules and bound together using a natural adhesive called suberin, released during the heating process that binds the expanding granules together. Each cork coaster is durable, practical, simple and inspiring.
The cork sheets were individually laser cut into hexagonal coasters and etched with the Brond logo.
Dan hand-painted each sheet of cork with acrylic paint, spray paint and Posca pens. Every coaster is a unique, work of art in it's own right.
We collaborated with Neil at Bristol Design Forge on this project to laser cut and etch each coaster.
We would like to personally thank Neil for his enthusiasm and expert advice during this project. His in-depth knowledge of laser cutting was crucial to the success of the project.
